Marketing your business can be an overwhelming task and knowing where to start is half the battle. I’ve laid out 5 things you can do today that will help move the needle and get you started on the right path forward.

Step 1: Taking Stock of Your Marketing

First off, List Your Marketing Channels

So, let’s start by taking a good look at how we’re promoting our home inspection business. Get a pen and paper and jot down all the ways we’re reaching out to potential clients. That includes our website, Facebook page, our connections with real estate agents, and even those good old print ads. Once we’ve got them all down, let’s move on to the next step.

Next, Evaluate How Well Each Channel is Doing

Now, let’s get into the nitty-gritty. Take a moment to think about how effective each of these channels is for us. Which ones are bringing in the most business, and are there any that might need a bit of a boost? Knowing what’s working best will help us focus our efforts in the right direction.

Step 2: Creating a Marketing Persona

Who’s Our Ideal Customer?

Okay, let’s imagine our perfect customer. What are they like? What do they care about? This imaginary person is our ideal customer, and they’re going to help us fine-tune our messaging.

Demographics are important here.  Talk to your real estate agents and find out everything you can about who is moving into the area: retirees, families, young professionals, blue-collar?

Now, Let’s Tailor Our Messages

Now that we’ve got our ideal customer in mind, let’s use that to shape the way we talk to our audience. Let’s think about what this person needs and wants, and make sure our content and campaigns speak right to them.

Step 3: Checking Out What Our Competitors are up to

What’s Working for Them?

It’s always a good idea to see what others in our field are doing. Take a close look at our competitors. What kind of ads are they running? How are they engaging with customers? What are they offering?

I’m willing to bet that most other inspectors are not doing much beyond a random Facebook post around the holidays or a canned blog article they copied from InterNACHI.

Finding Our Unique Approach

While we’re learning from them, remember, we’re not here to copy. Let’s take inspiration from their successes and put our own spin on things. It’s about finding our unique way to connect with our audience.

Step 4: Optimizing Our Google Business Profile

Getting Found on Google

Now, this one’s a game-changer. Our Google Business Profile is like our digital calling card. Let’s make sure it’s all filled out with our business name and location, but don’t forget to sprinkle in some relevant keywords. That way, when folks are searching for home inspectors in our area, they’ll find us.  FILL OUT EVERYTHING.  Google wants completed profiles and will reward you for it.

Showing Our Best Side with Images

Pictures say a thousand words, right? Let’s upload some high-quality images of our completed inspections, our team (if we’ve got one), and any special tools we use. This gives potential clients a visual of our professionalism and expertise.

Post Consistently

Pick one day a week to post something on your Google Business Profile and stick with it.  Post an interesting picture and say a few words about it, or write a few paragraphs.  This is free advertising that Google displays prominently so use it and use it often.

Step 5: Reaching Out to Real Estate Agents

Building Relationships That Matter

This one’s about connections. Let’s get out there, attend events, join groups, and get to know the real estate agents in our area. Building these personal connections often leads to fruitful partnerships and referrals.

Sharing Our Expertise

We’ve got knowledge to share! Offer to hold seminars or workshops for agents on topics like common inspection findings or helpful maintenance tips. This not only supports their success but adds value to the relationship.

First time home buyer classes are great and agents are looking for inspectors to speak.  Again, this is free advertising so use it!

Remember, these steps are all about making our mark in the world of home inspection. It’s going to take some time and effort, but trust me, the payoff will be worth it. Keep at it!
